Wellington, New Zealand: Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Hon. James Marape and New Zealand Prime Minister Hon. Christopher Luxon today signed the refreshed PNG-New Zealand Statement of Partnership 2025 - 2029 to reaffirm the countries' bilateral relationship.

The signing took place at the Parliament Building's Theatrette Room following the leaders' bilateral meeting this afternoon.

During the press stand-up, Prime Minister Luxon said that New Zealand deeply valued its friendship with Papua New Guinea, a crucial partner in the Pacific.

“We look forward to continuing to work alongside Papua New Guinea on issues facing the Pacific region, including climate change and upholding Pacific Islands Forum unity," said Prime Minister Luxon.

In response, Prime Minister Marape said the Statement of Partnership by the leaders instilled a new desire to achieve practical and meaningful outcomes that would contribute to Papua New Guinea in the areas of education, public sector support, climate change, increased business, trade and investment and regional security.

“It is a two-way arrangement that is strategic, more focused, and of mutual benefit, particularly in developing stronger ties in agriculture and fisheries.

"It also increases and structures dialogue to be more frequent at Leaders’, Ministerial, and Officials levels," said Prime Minister Marape.

Following the signing ceremony, Prime Minister Marape was hosted to an official dinner by Prime Minister Luxon at the official residence of the New Zealand Prime Minister, the Premier House.
