The Marape-Rosso government has once again proven that when faced with real governance issues like corruption, inflation, and a struggling economy, their best solution is to silence the people rather than fix the problems. Instead of addressing the deteriorating state of healthcare, education, law and order, and infrastructure, they are busy testing how to shut down Facebook, as if that will magically solve the country’s problems.
What’s next? Ban mobile phones because people are making calls to complain? Cut off electricity because someone posted a meme? This is Papua New Guinea, a democratic country, not some dictatorship where the government decides what citizens can and cannot say.
Shutting down Facebook, even for a few hours, shows how out of touch this government is with reality. They fear the truth being exposed, yet they have no fear when millions of kina disappear into thin air. If only they applied this same level of effort into fighting corruption, we’d actually see progress.

If Marape and Rosso can’t handle criticism, they shouldn’t be in leadership. Real leaders fix problems, they don’t shut down social media to hide their incompetence...
