The nation of Papua New Guinea (PNG) is currently in the midst of its 50th Jubilee celebration, marking half a century of political independence since 1975. As we reflect on this milestone, it is crucial to acknowledge the efforts made by our Prime Minister, Hon. James Marape, who has tirelessly traveled the world to showcase PNG’s potential. He has sought to expose our rich God-given resources and highlight the nation’s capacity for growth, given our strategic location in the Pacific region.

However, the challenges we face—politically, economically, socially, and legally—require a holistic approach to ensure our nation continues to progress. Building physical infrastructures alone is not enough to claim success as a government. We must ensure that all sectors, from education to health, are aligned with global standards to protect our interests and ensure a prosperous future for the next generation. To achieve this, the three arms of government must be robust and function independently, free from political interference.

The executive branch must be diligent in implementing policies and executing its duties impartially, while the legislature must focus on long-term goals rather than short-term gains. This means ensuring the continuity of our democratic systems, free from the destabilizing effects of frequent votes of no confidence. Furthermore, the judiciary must remain protected, with its integrity upheld by the Constitution, ensuring that it remains uncompromised.

Prime Minister James Marape, as a true son of Papua New Guinea, deserves the opportunity to complete his term. His leadership should not be undermined by political maneuvering or premature calls for his step-down. Political dynamics will naturally unfold in the 2027 National General Elections, where the true strength of the people’s mandate will be measured.

Prime Minister Marape is deeply committed to the welfare of his country, rooted in his own land and dedicated to serving his people. He is not a foreign entity in charge of the nation, but a true son of the soil who is working to chart a course for the future. While no leader is without faults, the recent economic challenges and political pressures should not distract from the larger goal of steady progress. The nation’s ship is on course under his stewardship, and it is crucial that we allow him to complete his term with stability.

Let us move forward with optimism, focusing on substantive change rather than rhetoric. It is only through unity, patience, and collective effort that we can ensure the prosperity of our nation. May God Almighty continue to bless Papua New Guinea as we look ahead to the next 50 years and beyond.
