Prime Minister Marape welcomed all delegates, acknowledging the unity of Pacific nations beyond geopolitical divides, emphasizing shared heritage and common challenges. He highlighted the regionโ€™s interconnectedness, stating, โ€œThe sea is our pathway to each other,โ€ and underscored education as the key to collective progress.

Marape stressed that despite climate change and socio-economic barriers, Pacific nations have shown resilience in education. He reaffirmed PNGโ€™s commitment to making education accessible, ensuring that free education is a fundamental right. The government aims to extend basic education to Grade 12 while emphasizing moral values alongside academic knowledge.

Addressing challenges such as financial constraints, teacher shortages, and STEM education gaps, he called for regional collaboration and technology integration to improve learning outcomes. He acknowledged the University of the South Pacificโ€™s innovative role in advancing education and emphasized the need for digital transformation while mitigating its risks.

Marape advocated for a more flexible education system, moving beyond rigid academic calendars to competency-based learning. He encouraged research into adaptable education models, skill-based training, and quality-driven examinations. Pledging his support for Pacific education initiatives, he committed to championing these efforts at the Pacific Islands Forum.

He concluded by recognizing the vital role of education ministers in shaping the future of Pacific youth, reinforcing the belief that every individual has the potential to contribute meaningfully if given the right education they need.
